The Corinth-Alcorn Animal Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue on a mission to save the abused, neglected, abandoned and injured animals in Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi. The rescue focuses on critically injured and abused dogs and cats, and we never euthanize for time or space.
Corinth-Alcorn Animal Rescue (CAAR) is the only no-kill, animal shelter-rescue in a six county area of North Mississippi and West Tennessee. The area is also predominately low-income with limited resources for low cost spay/neuter and vet care programs. Due to this, we have a serious pet overpopulation problem in the North Mississippi and West Tennessee area with many, many homeless dogs and cats in need. The numbers continuing to grow. The CAAS's facility is always overburdened and usually full due to the mass numbers in our area with pets that constantly need medical and daily care until they are adopted. Therefore, with limited funding and space constraints we can’t take every animal, and we can’t even accept every injured animal because the need in our area is so great.
Because of contracts, the rescue must receive all animals captured by City of Corinth animal control, Alcorn County Board of Supervisors and City of Farmington animal control.
Due to the mass numbers of homeless pets in our area consistently brought in by animal control, the rescue does not have the resources needed to intake all animals from the public due to space, funding, and contractual agreements. Pets lives are important to us, however due to space and funding issues the Corinth Alcorn Animal Shelter is subject to being a limited-intake facility.
CAAS’s limited funding from Corinth, Farmington and Alcorn County is used for payroll, utilities and some maintenance, while private donations through fundraising efforts go directly to care for the animals, vet costs, supplies and food.
Founded in 2011 and funded by private donations, the City of Corinth, the City of Farmington, and the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors, CAAS facility are managed by community leaders, volunteers and a dedicated staff.
We are only able to pursue our mission with the additional support of private donations from individuals and businesses, grants from foundations and trusts, and various fundraising events. Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter is classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) organization for tax purposes and all donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Our Vision is to end the needless killing of homeless pets and help control pet overpopulation in our community. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. Because we know it can be done. And because we believe that every pet is an important life.
In late summer 2017, CAAS partnered with the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors to launch ACSpay, a new program to provide low-cost spaying for female dogs owned by low-income families in Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi who may not be able to afford it at regular cost. The cost of $25 will include the procedure and a rabies vaccination.
The rescue also hosts a catch-and-release program for feral cats in Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi. The rescue picks up feral animals, brings them to the shelter, has the animals spayed or neutered and then releases them back into the community. The program has made a great impact on the local kitten population.
Due to limited staffing and resources, THE SHELTER FACILITY IS ONLY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC for ADOPTIONS and OWNER SURRENDERS BY APPOINTMENT.
